WoW Forever Skyborne Druid 1-10: Zephyrus Isle to Azeroth

I made a brand new Skyborne Druid in the WoW Forever beta, Torvin Skyfeather, and took him from level 1 to 10. That covers the whole Zephyrus Isle starter zone, then a skyship off the island and a tour of the Alliance capitals that ended with a blue cloak. Along the way I worked out how the two Skyborne racials behave and which island items are worth picking up.

Arriving on Zephyrus Isle

The intro cinematic transitions straight into you standing in the game, which I liked, though I wish it had faded in instead of cutting. The starter area looks very elf-like, as it should. I also admit I played a lot of resto druid back in Mists and Legion, including some heroic raiding. I tried Mythic too, but that was a bit too hardcore for me.

Walk on Air and Read Ley Line

My first try at both racials did nothing useful. Walk on Air was just falling, and Read Ley Line gave me no visible effect. Two early quests explain them:

1. Take "Reading the ley lines" and go to the standing stones to the northeast of Thundal Grove.
2. Stand close to the leyline and use Read Ley Line. Health and mana regen go up by 100%: 15 seconds with no leyline nearby, 15 minutes next to one.
3. For "Falling with style", climb the long spiral staircase, jump off the top and glide down.

You have to be pretty close to the leyline for it to work, and it has a 2 minute cooldown. I said on the spot it could be quite overpowered, and after playing a while without the buff I called it a drug I need. Always.

Windstone and the Den Mother

Windstones drop from the little whirlwinds, and you can also pick them from the shards sticking out of the ground. One restores 21 to 59 mana and 32 to 88 health, works in combat, and can't be used outside Skywall. Gather them, they're really strong at low level.

In the Den Mother's cave I grouped with a random player and we got her head. My tip: invite people to party, otherwise only one of you gets the tag. Then I pulled too many scrawny bears outside and had my first death. They were faster than I thought.

Leylines across the island

Leylines are all over Zephyrus Isle, and the enemies seem to gather where they are. I wondered if Walk on Air could speed up travel. With a steep enough slope maybe, but the 2 minute cooldown keeps you from spamming it.

Bandits and pilfered windstones

The Highland Bandit leader hides in a cave behind a waterfall. My second death was a noob move: I forgot how fast these things swim, and the graveyard spot is terrible.

Infiltrating the cult

With the cult's mark I walked right into Falath Village. Nobody detects you, and they even have a leyline you can use. I overheard their plan to attack the Western Watchtower and Shandar Village, and by the time I got to the watchtower Peacekeeper Vaniel was already down. Before that I took on Vulgara, a level 8 elite, and killed her with some help.

Valanar, the Skyborne city

Valanar has its own leyline right in town, plus a bank and auction house. The High Order transport to Dalaran waits at the furthest dock on the southeastern edge.

Skyship to Azeroth

The skyship flies you to Dalaran, and from there the Skyborne portal takes you to Stormwind. Bolvar gives you the Cloak of the Honored Guest quest, which means visiting the Alliance leaders. I took the tram to Ironforge to meet Magni. Leylines exist in Azeroth too: I found one right outside Ironforge and another in the Wetlands, and as far as I can tell only Skyborne can see them.

Level 10 in Teldrassil

Getting to Darnassus as a level 9 who mostly played Horde:

• Go through Loch Modan and the Wetlands to Menethil Harbor.
• Board the boat on the far right dock to Darkshore. I got on the wrong one first and ended up in Southshore.
• In Darkshore, ask the dockmasters or friendly players which boat goes to Teldrassil.

I hit level 10 as I stepped off in Teldrassil, then met Tyrande.

Earning the blue cloak

The quest turns in back in Stormwind, not in Darnassus. I messed that up; it had been a long trip, that's my excuse. There's a new ship straight from Darkshore to Stormwind, so getting back was easy. The cloak gives one attack power and one spell damage, and it looks pretty nice.
